PUPPY
PRESCHOOL
Puppy PreSchool is the key to raising a happy, well-adjusted and
responsible dog. Early training and socialisation of your puppy
helps it learn correct behaviour from the start rather than having
to correct bad behaviour later on. Consistency, patience and positive
reinforcement (through praise and treats) can help your puppy grow
into a happy, well-mannered member of your family.
Our
aims at Puppy Preschool are to help you:
•
Communicate clearly with your dog so you can influence and shape
its behaviour as it grows;
• Get your dog to respond to a range of basic commands - sit,
stay, come - using positive reinforcement;
• Raise a well-mannered dog who respects that you
are the boss;
• Socialise your dog with different people and dog personalities,
all within a safe environment;
• Care for your dog through correct nutrition, appropriate
medications, regular examinations, vaccinations and grooming.
And as the classes are so much fun, your puppy will develop happy
memories of our vet hospital, which makes future visits easy and
more enjoyable.
Frequently
Asked Questions about Puppy Preschool
Who
is instructing the course?
Your instructor will be Animal Behaviourist, Georgie Caspar.
Georgie has worked for 10 years
as a Certified Clinical Animal Behaviourist in both University and
Private Practice. She has treated dogs, cats and rabbits for aggression,
anxiety, toilet problems, control problems etc. It is from this
wealth of experience and her training, that she will be able to
help you avoid many of the common dog problems by giving them the
best understanding and training from an early age.
When and how long is the course?
Puppy Preschool classes are held once a week, on Wednesdays
from 6.30 - 7.30pm, and runs over 4 weeks.
Where
is it held?
Classes are held at our practice at 138 Church Street,
Mudgee. They are run by experienced Vet Nurse and puppy whisperer,
Karen Cole.
How
old should my puppy be?
Puppies
should be between 6-16 weeks of age. If your little canine friend
is outside this age group, but you would like to participate in
some training or education, please contact us to discuss the alternatives
for junior dog training.
What should I bring to class?
Please bring a lead and make sure your puppy has a comfortable,
well-fitted collar. No choker chains please. If your puppy
was not vaccinated at Church Street Vet Hospital, you'll need to
bring puppy's current vaccination record. Vaccinations
are essential prior to starting puppies at preschool.
Should
I feed my puppy before class?
Please don't feed your puppy in the 2 hours before the
class as puppies like to sleep after a meal. We need them to be
alert and responsive in Puppy Preschool and hungry enough for the
tasty treats on offer that we use for positive reinforcement.
How
do I book my puppy into a class?
Bookings
must be made in advance, so please call Church Street Vet Hospital
on 63726780 and we will book you in to our next available course.
Payment to be made prior to the course or at the first class. Cash
payments only. Price includes all treats for your puppy during classes
