| RADIOGRAPHY
Our
advanced digital radiography system is used for both large
and small animals. As the system is portable, our veterinarians
are able to provide a professional digital x-ray service on
farm visits or house calls, for those large animals which
are impractical to bring in to the Hospital. The images can
be digitally saved and stored, or emailed to a specialist
if required. [top] |
ENDOSCOPY
Endoscopy is the examination of the interior of a canal
or internal organ using a tiny camera. It is an excellent disgnostic
tool because it allows for direct inspection of the organ system,
the ability to collect samples for biopsy or analysis, and also
allows for the non-surgical removal of foreign matter from your
pet. [top] |
ULTRASOUND
An ultrasound is another non-evasive diagnostic for
your pet. Without the need for sedation, it uses sound waves
to painlessly examine specific internal organs. Our portable
ultrasound unit allows us to test stock and horses for pregnancy,
with detection even as early as 26 days. [top] |

DESEXING
Desexing your dog or cat prevents unplanned pregnancy and has
positive effects on behaviour and health. Desexed animals are
less likely to wander or fight over territory. Desexing also
comes with health benefits for both male and female animals.
Females desexed early are less likely to suffer from mammary
tumours later in life and males are less likely to develop prostatic
disease. We recommend that your puppy or kitten be desexed from
5 to 6 months of age. The operation is straight forward and
recovery is very quick. [top] |
HEALTH CHECKS
Dogs and cats age on average seven times faster than people.
By the age of five, most cats and dogs are into middle age and
by seven they are into older age. Significant health changes
can occur in a very short period of time. We recommend that
you bring your pet in for a comprehensive health check at least
once a year. For older pets, health checks give the opportunity
to prevent or treat problems before they become life threatening.

VACCINATIONS
Vaccinating your dog or cat protects it against a wide variety
of infectious diseases. At Church Street Vet Hospital, we do
not believe that one vaccination program is correct for all
pets. Although core vaccines need to be administered (Dogs:Cainine
Distemper virus, Canine Adenovirus and Cainine Parvovirus. Cats:
Feline Parvovirus, Feline calicivirus and Feline Herpesvirus),
our vaccine protocols are as individual as your pet itself.
Our veterinarian will discuss with you a vaccination program
that is based on the particular lifestyle of your pet. [top] |
DENTAL CARE
Clean teeth are much more than just a matter of cosmetic appearance.
The build-up of tartar, subsequent gum disease, and finally
tooth loss, affects not just your pet's immediate dental hygiene,
but also has a long-term impact on their health and will ultimately
shorten your pet's life. Church Street Vet Hospital's highly
trained dental technicians regularly perform cleanings, polishing,
descaling, deep gum cleaning, assessment of tooth and gum health,
and extractions. [top]

MICROCHIPPING
A microchip is a small chip that is encoded with a
number which uniquely identifies your pet. The chip is implanted
between the pet's shoulder blades just under the skin. Placing
the microchip requires no local or general anesthesia and does
not cause any irritation or infection. If an animal arrives
at our practice, or an area animal shelter, it is automatically
scanned for a microchip to find its rightful owners. [top] |
PHARMACY
Church Street Vet Hospital has a full in-house pharmacy for
your pet's prescription needs as well as various over-the-counter
medications for heartworm, flea and tick prevention. Our large
animal pharmacy has been established to assist those people
with only a few livestock to treat (worm drenches, vitamin supplements,
spot-on treatments etc). We aim to minimize the need to buy
excessive amounts of product over and above what you require
by availing these products in the required dispensed portion.

PET OBESITY CLINIC
Overweight dogs and cats are becoming more common as we feed
them higher quality foods on a regular basis. Obesity in animals
leads to joint and muscle disease, heart disease, renal disease
and diabetes. It also makes anaesthesia more of a risk and surgery
more complicated. Our
veterinary nurses run a clinic for overweight dogs and cats
which utilises the food Royal Canin Obesity. This is a nutritionally
balanced diet which is calorie controlled. The nurses will
guide you as to how much and how often to feed your animal,
the amount and type of exercise which should be attempted
and regular weigh-in's helps to keep you keep your pet on
target. [top] |
PET GROOMING
Grooming is an essential part of pet care. Many dogs and cats
require regular grooming to maintain a healthy coat, paticularly
those with long, easily-matted coats, or those prone to skin
conditions.
We
take pride in our grooming standards and are pleased to offer
basic clips to both dogs and cats. Your pet can be clipped,
nails trimmed, hydrobathed, dried and returned to you looking
like a new animal! This service is available for dogs and
cats of all breeds and sizes is carried out by our vet nurses.
Our
grooming service is from Mondays to Fridays by appointment
only. Please contact our friendly staff to discuss your pet
grooming requirements and to make a booking. [top]
